Kulitak Kulitak shook his fluffy mane of fur, the dark tendrils dancing at pollen and dust flew from his pelt. His good eye scanned the banks of the lake with the vision of a hawk; his blue eye followed behind, seeing shapely blurs where the golden eye saw objects. He had learned to see past his disability and use his other senses; right now he could hear the distant snorts of a small group of deer, and the lonely caw of a raven somewhere in the high foliage. The wind rustled his fur and he could smell the lone bull moose on the other side of the lake, his antlers a great symbol of power. Kulitak was wise beyond his years, his history a testament to that fact. He had overcome his blurry left eye with perseverance, and that was why he was the alpha of these lands. The dark gray wolf turned his gaze down the banks of the lake again, scanning their muddy slopes for signs of activity. Unfortunately there was nothing, and Kulitak continued on his rounds of the lake for the morning. The herd animals present at the lake ignored him, knowing he was not there to hunt. Kulitak nodded his large head at each animal he passed in greeting, appreciating the trust the herds placed upon him; yes, he and his pack hunted them, but their common beliefs in the Gods of the forest placed a thick layer of trust in the wolves and herds… Kulitak was not to hunt them if he was not hungry, and the herds knew this. It was all a part of the great success of the wolves in this territory. The large alpha male trotted around an outcropping of rock, sniffing the air continuously for signs of something foreign. Nothing breached his seasoned nostrils and he climbed swiftly up the rocks, lying down on the highest boulder where the sun would warm his fur. He craned his neck tall, still on the lookout despite the calmness of the lake territory. He would stay like this for another hour, until it was time to make his rounds in another portion of the pack’s lands. His pack members knew where to find him, if they needed him.

It was hard to believe that Jin wanted to challenge the Alpha for his title, honestly she felt disgusted by the very idea of it. After all they have gone through recently he wanted to cause more chaos and distress to the remaining pack members. Needless to say she had left him mid conversation, and was now stomping through the forest in her anger. Huyana felt it foolish to even be talking out loud about a take over, if anyone heard him.. She had no doubt the Alpha would punish him if not drive him from his home for it. There wasn't much she could do to stop him, and so she would avoid him for now. Perhaps he would see her reaction and think about what he was considering. That and deep down she doubted he would make a good leader, he was far to emotional most of the time. He never stopped to consider things before jumping to a conclusion... and that sort of mindset would put them in ruin. Breathing deep, she calmed her frazzled nerves and continued the walk. It brought her a sense of peace to be out here by herself. Scenting the breeze for a moment she caught the trail of her leader and quietly followed him, and it didn't take very long to find him either.
Huyana watched him lounging upon his rock, her blue eyes dancing with a variety of emotion. She had always respected Kulitak from the time he came to the pack, and for a time even had a crush on him. However she had respected the relationship he had built with the Alpha female and had never pursued a thing with him. Even now with her death she was afraid to even think about what could now be? A part of her knew he grieved deeply for his mate and pups, and so she would not make it more awkward for him. Instead, she would be his friend, a shoulder to cry on if need be. Quietly she approached but not so he wouldn't hear her approaching him. She easily found herself a rock to lounge on as well, with a contented sigh the she wolf lay down.
Her blue eyes looked out at the surroundings, watching as the herds went about their business. They didn't fear the pack like in most other places, knowing that they were bound by law to not hunt unless hungry. Which meant the pack often got to interact with other creatures that normally would run away. "Good morning Kulitak.. how are you doing today?" She started the conversation per usual, and glanced at the large male, hoping he was in a social mood this day. Sometimes he wanted left alone, but she knew being alone constantly was not healthy for their kind.

Kulitak He heard her before he saw her, her swift movements easy to identify between the grunts of the deer and twitter of the birds. He cocked his head when she arrived, wishing him good morning and asking him how he was. He turned his head to look at her with his good eye, a soft wolfish smile on his maw. "Good morning, Huyana. I'm well today. And you?" He asked politely, noticing the wind take a slightly shift to east. There wasn't much to talk about on mornings like this, aside from the weather and the movements of the herds. But he appreciated the company, as oftentimes when he was left alone his thoughts ran rampant and he began to think of his past. The birds called overhead and Kulitak sighed heavily, appreciating the cooler morning temperature. As he continued his rounds later in the day the air would rise in temperature, causing discomfort. He was built for Fall and Winter, not Summer. ((sorry for how short it was))

Stretching out on the boulder, the she wolf closed her eyes for the moment. She just wanted to enjoy his company and this was the best way to accomplish that. A part of her wished he would see her in a different light, not just as a friend to him but more. Oh, she desired to have a mate and pup's. She wanted to have a family more then anything else. Most of the males she had met were intimidated by her attitude and would avoid her. They wanted a female that was soft and needy.. and she was the utter opposite of that. She didn't want to rely on anyone for protection and so the she wolf remained alone.
Her sister Murua had managed to find a mate, and had produced a single pup as well. Huyana loved her niece dearly but she wanted her own family to raise and protect from the outside world. His words reached her ears and they twitched absently for a moment as she listened to the world around them.
"I am doing good, though I haven't slept real well recently thanks to nightmares.." She told him absently not really expecting much of a response. Ever since the hunters had arrived and slaughtered the pack she hadn't been sleeping well. Those nightmares were horrid, watching her mother and father being shot and ravaged by dogs.. How the Alpha female had been slain and her pups brutalized by those dogs as well. It was something that truly haunted the female and it had begun to effect her way of life. She was always irritated and tended to avoid her family a lot.
Sighing softly she closed her eyes again, trying to allow herself to rest for a time. Sleep would probably do a lot of good for her now. Though she drifted in and out of sleep, ears alert for any response he may give.

Once, long ago, his mother had whispered sweet nothings into his ear, promising him a world of happiness and love. Since those words, nothing had ever been the same. His family had been brutally ripped apart by war and rebellion and he even learned that the wolves he hated the most in the world were his real parents. What, then, had he truly been fighting for? They were his blood but they required justice. What was his true calling? Should he stay with the rebellion, the very wolves that stole him from his den at a few days old and proclaim justice on those destroying his home lands or does he go back to his blood, those who created who he was and allowed him to come into this world. His beliefs were twisted and his trust misplaced. The confusion was too much for him. He turned and left, leaving everything behind in search of a world that neither carried chaos or hate.
The grass whispered as long limbs swept casually through them. The large paws of the male belonged to Roran, his red/brown fur burning like a tree in autumn beneath the late summer sun and his light tan eyes seemed nearly transparent as he squinted up into the trees, a lone raven calling down to him, most likely looking to see if the male had a kill. When he had come to these lands, he was satisfied with the peaceful tranquility he had found. He had joined this pack, who welcomed him with open arms and even fell into the way of life around here. But the Alphess and her pups... He had felt powerless as the horrors of his past plagued him, flashes and memories of a time and place he had thought he had left behind. Would he truly make a good Beta if these images and horrors of his past kept haunting him and stopping his feet? Upon coming to this pack, he had made it clear he wished to be Beta, wished to protect and advise the Alpha in anything he needed. He was a true warrior, whelped and bred by warriors. Yes, he wanted to find a place to settle down and remain at peace but he couldn't sit still for long. His body longed for the stretch of a run or the impact of a fight. Often times, if he remained in the pack for too long without much exercise, he'd find himself growling and pacing, often to the irritation of the pack members. To keep himself from randomly attacking a pack member in his anxiety, he would often take a run of the borders, re-scenting any markers he found to be too old. It was times like this he was able to clear his head and take a few deep breaths of fresh air and ultimately calm him down.
He had been on just a run as his left ear swiveled to the side, quickly followed by his head as he caught the sound of two voices not far off. The raven, apparently disappointed in not getting an easy meal, flew off, cawing to the world. Roran turned his paws, heading in the direction of the voices. In this noon time sun, you could easily see the muscles the male carried beneath his auburn fur, a true warrior. But what really proved his might was the lack of tail. Only a broken stubble remained on his backside. Long ago, in his old home lands, he got into a fight with two males, he later learned were his brothers, and had managed to kill both of them but not without losing a tail and almost losing an eye. A gruesome pink scar stretched across his left eye, the fur unable to regrow in the damaged skin. He could still see out of the eye but it had been months before he was able to open it. Now he only held the battle scars and his tail had healed without an infection but he received many teasings about his tail, some welcomed and some, not so much. Roran was pretty laid back and even loved to make others laugh but not exactly at his expense. He normally stuck to making the females laugh and often times, flirting. He was a real ladies man but when a female started talking about mating and pups, he backed off. Roran was afraid of commitment. Perhaps it was because of his years of being a hardened rebel warrior or perhaps it was the realization of who his real parents, never the less, Roran still hadn't found the one female who could pursue him and get under his skin, before he ran off. No female tried that hard. To them, there was always another male around the corner.
He neared the two and dropped his head in greeting to the Alpha and smiled at Huyana. "Hey guys." he greeted, plopping down on the grass shaded by he rock they laid on. His auburn fur could have been on fire for all he knew. The noon sun this time of year was brutal. "Just got back from a border run. Hope you don't mind my intrusion."

Kulitak His ears flicked backwards at her words. So she, too, was plagued by the memories they all shared too well, the flashbacks haunting more than their fair share of wolves. It had not been fair, to experience what they all had, but they were wolves and they would carry on. It was their duty to the pack to continue to exist, to move on past the suffering and create new life in the valley. Kulitak knew it was his duty to help the pack move on, and to take another mate in order to produce the next leader of the pack. But his heart was still heavy, and his chest empty. "Would you like to talk about them?" He asked gruffly, his voice catching as his own mind drifted into the realms of nightmares. Blinking roughly, Kulitak shook his own concerns from his mind. He needed to be selfless as an Alpha, and not worry about his own problems over those of others. His pack was his life, and he was determined to make amends for the attack they had all suffered through. But before Huyana could continue their conversation, Kulitak's Beta, Roran, appeared. He nodded respectfully to the younger male, his ears perked as news of the border reached his keen ears. Turning his good eye to Roran as he spoke, he flashed a quick glance at Huyana to determine if she was phased by the new male's presence. "Roran," he spoke in greeting, before continuing in a lazy and gruff, manner, "Not an intrusion at all. We were just chatting. How did your section of the border look?" The appearance of Roran has reminded Kulitak that he should be patrolling as well, but his bones fought against any upwards movement from his position on the rock. A few more minutes of relaxation would not effect the results. He would continue with his patrol soon, and perhaps the other two could join him.
