Alpha
The rank of Alpha is the one of most importance within a pack. A pack is lead by one or two Alpha's, one male and one female. If a pair then in most cases they are a mated pair as well. Alpha's are the most dominant of wolves, their personalities tending to be larger than life. They are the one's that lead the pack on hunts, defend the territory, chase off unwanted loners, raise pups, and everything in between. However it is good to remember that without the pack a Alpha would be nothing more than a lone wolf anyway.
Two allowed in a pack - one male and one female
Beta
The second in command, the Beta only has to submit to the Alpha's. These wolves also have a dominant personality and tend to be the packs 'protectors'. If the Alpha is unable to do a task then the Beta steps up and does it instead. They are capable of leading hunts, defending borders, chasing away unwanted wolves, protecting pups, and even mating with the Alpha if needed to. Normally the Beta is good friends or even best friends with the Alpha.

Gamma
Gamma's are the packs prime defenders, they are the most vicious of fighters. They are the one's to help the Alpha's win a war or chase off a loner that is creeping along the borders. When the Alpha and Beta are busy the Gamma preforms the tasks that need done for the pack.

Delta
Within the pack the rank of Delta is given to those that help raise and train pups and teenagers how to survive. The Delta will help teach a pup how to hunt for food and how to fight off an attacker. They work closely with the Kappa's since both ranks work mostly with the younger members of a pack.
Two allowed in a pack - one male and one female
Epsilon
The Epsilon rank is given to the best hunters in the pack. When they Alpha's and Beta's are busy the Epsilon wolves lead the hunt and provide food for the pack. They do not tolerate bad hunters usually and will not easily allow the pack to go hungry.

Theta
Theta's are the pack's elders, and usually spend their time around the pups and teenagers. If the pack does not have a Kappa they are often the one to teach the pups important lessons. The pack relies on them for wisdom and strength during horrible times. As the wolf in rank gets older they are expected to do less and less, and only do they hunt if they feel able to.
Kappa
Kappa's are the pack's pup-sitters, they are very friendly individuals and most often they don't rise in rank. They prefer spending quality time with pups and teens than dominance and duty. They do often take the pups out into the territory and teach them lessons in survival. Most of the time during a pack hunt the Kappa will remain behind when the pups are young to protect them from danger.
Sigma
Sigma's are just general pack members. They do whatever is needed---at all times. From protecting the borders, to hunting, raising pups, etc. Its a good solid rank to be at.
Tau
Basically teenagers. They don't have many duties within a pack, they are expected to show up for all lessons however. If the pack is small enough they will become the pack's pup sitters, otherwise they don't have to watch the pups.
Pups
Pups are pups.
Omega
Their job usually is to watch out for dangers coming up from behind the pack when the pack is on the move. In other words Omegas are the look out dogs of the pack. They also have one other important job, which is to stop meaningless fights between pack members. If there is a good reason for the fight The Omega will not intervene, however if there is no reason for the fight other then that the two wolves don't like each other the Omega will step in and at least try and stop it. The packs scapegoat, they eat last, get picked on.
